I had the absolute honour of co-compèring the sell-out CommuniTree Nottingham festival at Wollaton Deer Park alongside the incredible Janet Rose - and honestly, it was all that and more.
From the moment the music started rolling across the park, you could feel it. Love. Culture. Inclusion. Diversity. Dance. Pure vibes. A gathering of humans choosing joy, choosing connection, choosing community.
In times that can feel uncertain and divided, events like CommuniTree remind us of something important — humanity is still the majority.

What CommuniTree Stands For
CommuniTree is more than a festival. It’s a live music and community arts movement rooted in Nottingham, bringing people together through global music and creativity.
With its base in Hockley at City Arts, and events happening across the city, CommuniTree creates spaces where communities can experience high-quality live music, dance and expressive arts — often free to attend. That accessibility is intentional. It’s about making sure culture isn’t reserved for a few, but shared by many.
Founded by Janet Rose and Jude Winwood, CommuniTree has grown into a powerful example of what happens when you centre equity and access in the arts. Janet, a Black Achievers Award Lifetime Community Contributor, has spent decades uniting people through dance and creative movement. Together, she and Jude continue to create platforms where diverse talent thrives.
That energy was everywhere at the festival.
Love Is Louder
There’s always noise out there. Division. Headlines. Opinions.
But when thousands of people gather in a park to dance, sing, celebrate culture and stand shoulder to shoulder — that tells a different story.
UNITY IN ACTION.
Standing on stage, looking out at families, elders, young people, artists, performers from all backgrounds — it felt powerful. Not performative. Not forced. Just real.
Big love to Tina Carter and my sister-friend Jude W. for being masters at bringing all kinds of humans together in the name of love. What they build is intentional. And you can feel that intention in every detail.

Why This Matters
Festivals like CommuniTree are not just entertainment. They are reminders.
Reminders that diversity is strength. That inclusion creates belonging. That music dissolves barriers. That community still matters.
To hold the mic in a space like that, to help guide the energy, to celebrate artists and welcome the crowd — I never take it lightly. I love my job as a compère, but moments like this are about something bigger than a stage.
They are about showing what’s possible when we come together.
And if Sunday proved anything, it’s this:
Love wins.Community wins. And we are stronger when we move as one.
